About MagicDoor

Built in Denver for landlords who do it themselves

MagicDoor started in 2023 with a simple idea: independent landlords managing a handful of properties should not need a property manager just to keep the back office running.

The Story

Why Kasper built MagicDoor

Kasper Sogaard spent years building property management software at a real estate tech firm. He understood the industry from the engineering side. Then in 2022 he bought his first rental property in Denver, and suddenly he was on the other side of the counter.

He managed it manually for a year: spreadsheets for rent, text messages for reminders, fielding calls himself when a pipe leaked at 11pm. The tools he had access to were built for professional managers running fifty-unit portfolios. Nothing was designed for someone with three units and a day job.

He founded MagicDoor in Denver in 2023 to fix that. The three tasks that ate the most landlord time, screening applicants, chasing rent, and routing maintenance calls, are exactly what AI can handle reliably. The landlord approves. The back office runs itself.

What guides how we build

Landlord first

Every decision starts with the independent landlord, not the institutional property manager. The product should work for someone managing three units as a side income.

Time is the constraint

Our users manage properties on top of full-time jobs. Every feature is measured by how much landlord time it saves. Features that add complexity without saving time do not ship.

Control stays with the landlord

AI runs the repetitive work. The landlord approves the tenant, decides on the maintenance budget, and sets the rent reminder schedule. AI does not make the call.

Simple pricing

Three tiers. No per-feature add-ons. No annual lock-in required. A landlord managing two units should be able to understand the full cost in under a minute.
